1. Memes as resistance post
Businesses, as soon the tariffs take effect.
Memes can be used as a form of resistance and advocacy, because memes can poke fun or make a breakdown of the system in which they don't agree with. Memes are depicted using scenes from popular movies, cartoons, video games, and many other media, while putting in a statement or sentence in parodies, sarcasm, and in jokes where it pokes fun of something. It makes it amusing or funny to people or it can relate to them. Memes typically talks about some serious issue, but it expresses it in a light and funny way. It makes people more agreeable to think about it and discuss it with their peers. Memes are equivalent to the political cartoons that we used to see before, but they are very easy to make, easy to share and instantly recognizable, as said from the article, "What Memes Owe to Art History".
The meme I have created talks about the effects of tariffs on the prices of the common products that we commonly buy, whether it's from food to video games, clothing, or essentially everything. We all know, despite the promises from the government that the prices will not go up, it is the opposite that we are currently experiencing. This meme serves as an expression of what is really happening from the consumer's point of view and to contradict what politicians are saying.
2. What is patriarchy and Activism?
Patriarchy is a social system where men hold power and control, restricting the women from their rights and opportunities. Activism is a policy or action when people take action in campaigning to bring about political or social change. Systems of power, like patriarchy for example, affects everyone's rights by controlling or limiting on whoever gets access, whether it about their opportunities, safety, and resources. This applies to racism as well. Both of these causes imbalance to others, whether it be by race, gender, or background.
3. Reading
"The task of art is to transform what is continuously happening to us, to transform all these things into symbols, into music, into something which can last in man’s memory." - Jorge Luis Borges
"Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought." - Audre Lorde
Response: What Jorge Luis Borges means that art can let us express and say things that can't be said, in an abstract feeling and share our ideas in such ways that they can be communicated with other peers. This means that we can express ourselves in art in a way from transforming our experiences in everyday lives into something that we can remember and cherish in our memories. As for Audre Lorde, she means that we can also express our feelings in poetry. Not only we can express our feelings in art, whether it be in symbols or in music, we can also express ourselves in poetry where we could bring out our feelings, ideas, and our experiences we could share to everyone and our peers.
