"This meme is supposed to represent how most debates usually go its just one side trying to condemn the other side trying to paint their own side as close to saints"
1- How can memes act as a form of resistance and advocacy?
Memes have become a powerful tool in protest and resistance because they allow people to communicate complex ideas quickly, creatively, and accessibly. Through humor, satire, and visual symbolism, memes can challenge authority critique injustice, and spread awareness of social or political issues. Since they are easily shareable and adaptable, memes can go viral amplifying messages that might otherwise be ignored by mainstream media. This makes them an accessible form of digital activism, especially for younger generations who use social platforms as their primary space for political expression.
At the same time, memes can create solidarity among participants in a movement. By remixing familiar cultural references into political commentary, they make people feel part of a collective conversation and strengthen group identity in this way, memes don't just mock or critique power, they also provide encouragement, humor, and a sense of community for those resisting it.
2- What is patriarchy?
Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power, particularly in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege, and control of resources, while women and other marginalized genders are left out of such things. Where as activism is the practice of taking some sort of action, For example protesting, to attempt to bring about social or political change.
Systems of power, like patriarchy, racism, or economic inequality, shape how we experience our daily lives and the rights available to us. they influence who has access to opportunities, whose voices are heard, and whose needs are prioritized. For example, systemic power can place restrictions on certain groups and communities access to stuff like fair wages, education, and even healthcare, while simultaneously granting these privileges to others. These systems can be enforced through things like laws, policies, or even cultural norms and expectations. Understanding stuff like this is very important so we can challenge them and push for justice for everyone.
3- Chapter 1 - 2 quotes and short response
"For some, stepping of the curb may be like an epiphany, a blinding moment of clarity in which the injustices of the world are dramatically revealed, while for others it may be a slow awakening, learned indirectly."
Short response: This quote highlights how awareness of injustice doesn't come the same way for everyone, some people experience a sudden realization, while others reach understanding gradually. Bot paths are as valid as the other, but what matters in the end is that the awakening happened and leads to reflection and then action.
"Coffee house denizens and democratic theorists were on to some-thing. Making rational decisions based upon informed and reasoned discussions is a worthy ideal. This is something we should aspire to, not only as artists and activists but throughout our societies"
Short response: This quote reminds us that meaningful progress depends on dialogue rooted in reason and shared understanding. Whether in art, activism, or everyday life, Striving for thoughtful, informed discussion strengthens both communities and democracy.
