How can memes act as a form of resistance and advocacy?
Memes speak up for people & display their feelings in an artistic way. A meme can act as a form of resistance because a meme is a protest for people but, it could be in a funny way, a serious way, or a settle way. Memes advocate for people because as I mentioned earlier, memes speak up for people; it brings awareness to the issue. Memes are the internet's protest. Certain memes brings people from all different parts of social media together & it's goes viral! It's an unforgettable message for people as well; The meme lives rent free in their mind.
Meme Explanation: My meme is about inflation. I feel as though inflation is definitely real thing happening all around the world. It is also a serious & atrocious issue. My meme is self-explanatory but it's explaining how you can obtain the same lifestyle even with inflation but in a funny way, by equating sushi (which is the expensive food that you use to eat for a good price when inflation wasn't a thing) to a goldfish on top of white rice (which is the meal you would eat now because inflation is now a thing & sushi ain't cheap no more).Meme Explanation: My meme is about police brutality. Whomever is unfamiliar with the word, this is discrimination and unfair treatment against people of color. Police brutality is still an ongoing issue. Being a black individual feels scary to be because of mainly this issue. We get unfair treatment everyday! Under paid, overlooked, underprivileged, racism, unemployment, stereotyping & ETC. This is another self explanatory meme although, it means the black young male is guarding the white police man, while that's happening the white cop says "Black people ain't the only thing I can shoot, Jamal." Meaning he can shoot basketballs as well as he shoots black people.
What is patriarchy?
Patriarchy is a sense of authority given to men, they hold the power & give woman none of it, we're excluded! Activism is speaking up & campaigning about political changes that's going on around the world. Systems of power has an affect on our lives and rights because it's restrain us, it holds us back, it's takes us back a step & it's takes away our freedom step by step.
"When used by activists, the phrase "stepping off the curb" refers to the moment that one leaves the sidewalk and enters the street to join a protest, but in boarder sense it means making the step from passive indifference into active engagement". I chose this as my first quote because I never heard of that term, so it caught my attention & I learned new things while reading chapter 1. "It was these stories that led maria to become an immigrant rights activist." You sharing your experience & your upbringings could inspire amazing ideas for people, when people have similar struggles, its lets people know that we have a team behind us, we have people supporting us and with that you could go so far. Connections are important to create because you never know who shares the same background as you.
