Midterm Proposal Project- Ethan Pazmino

Towards a Curatorial Activism | Dr. Maura Reilly”:

“After even a cursory glance at art world statistics such as these, which are (sadly) almost identical in every mainstream museum throughout the world, it is evident that sexism and racism have become so insidiously woven into the institutional fabric, language and logic of the mainstream art world that the inequities in representation often go undetected”

This quote means that sexism and racism are so prominent in every institution that they get overlooked because of how natural or normal it is.

“While my feminist friends did not understand my nomination of Bell for the fellowship – since Richard, after all, describes himself as ‘a recovering sexist’, and was, therefore, a far cry from my previous postcolonial feminist projects – to me it was a clear extension of my curatorial activism”

She put aside her biasness because she thought that his Art was great, so she gave him the international fellowship for the year.

What is Curatorial Activism? by Dr. Maura Reilly | Art News:

  •

“This book is a celebration of these and other curatorial activist projects that have demonstrated that new approaches to curating are possible. But it is also a manifesto for change in the art world. It demands that we resist masculinism and sexism, confront white privilege and Western-centrism, and challenge hetero-centrism and lesbo-homophobia.”

This book is trying to find new ways to get around all the racism and sexism that is tied up in the industry.

“If you don’t believe that the art world is sexist and racist, it’s time for you to come out from under your rock. Current statistics demonstrate that the fight for equality in the art world is far from over”

Some people may believe that no such racism exist in the industry but in this quote the author urges those people to go do research and see for themselves.

(DRAFT) MIDTERM PROJECT PROPOSAL:

  • Frank Bowling, Green across I, 2009 the piece art that I used in last week's blog is an acrylic paint and gel on paper and maybe I can make one myself because I've never tried to before
  • I like the different vibrant colors such as reds, purples, and greens that when put together make something really nice to look at. So, i can experiment with different types of colors that come together really well.
  • In the piece of art, you can't really make out what you are looking at and maybe my art can be the same to give the viewer a chance to use their own imagination and not specially say what something is or isn't.
