Part 2
Art activism is the use of creativity such as visual art, performance, or design to inspire social or political change.
According to The Art of Activism (Ch 1), it “combines the power of art’s emotional connection with the strategic goals of activism.” In other words, it’s when artists use their work to challenge injustice, raise awareness, and bring communities together to take action.
Part 3
For my example of art activism, I chose graffiti murals in Jersey City that advocate for justice for women of color and against police brutality. These public artworks are powerful forms of social expression, they give a voice to those who are often unheard and transform everyday spaces into platforms for awareness and unity.
I chose these examples because these social movements bring people together and show solidarity. They demonstrate that we support one another, that we are dedicated to helping each other succeed, and that we stand against discrimination, inequality, and injustice. These events and artworks uplift people of color rather than divide them, using creativity as a form of strength and resistance.
