    Chapter 6: Persuasion

"Like so much else about commercial culture, we don’t need to like it, but as artistic activists we do need to learn from it." (pg. 212)

Knowledge is power, and with that power we can use it to gain more control over ourselves and less to whatever conglomerate capitalist culture is trying to control us as the people in any given moment. Once we have knowledge we attain a greater since of self that in the end can be used to help our fellow man become better as a collective.

"We can learn the most from a type of marketing called social marketing. Its function is not to sell products, but to change social behaviors in often positive ways, promoting initiatives like public health. Social marketing has a long history, with media such as persuasive speeches, printed pamphlets, and broadside posters being used to communicate public messages for centuries" (pg. 212)

When people think about the word manipulation, it comes with a heavily negative connotation that enforces the belief that we don't have some measure of control, but manipulation is not an inherently bad thing. Manipulation is just another form of persuasion guiding people to having a mindset toward a certain goal or outcome that could be beneficial for everyone. In the end persuasion is just a guide towards a different thought process, that like the quote above stated, can promote positive social messages or give awareness to certain topics people normally wouldn't care about.
