Draft Project Post - Jayden Battle

This quote explains how the Nazis understand how the human mind works, and how hope and fear can change how humans think.

"Although it’s painful to admit, some of the best practitioners of artistic activism have not exactly changed the world for the better."(Steve & Steve 293.)

Creativity can be for good, or it can cause harm. People have creative ideas, but the intention can be extremely negative. There can be art that serves a purpose, but is the purpose really for the benefit of others?

"Being so close to the issues we are struggling with, we often get caught up in the immediate problems we face."(Steve & Steve 317).

When you're constantly caught up in stress, your focus shifts to things that are right in front of you. This can make you blind to the bigger picture at times.

"We seem to spend much more of our time and attention focusing on what keeps us down instead of looking up."(Steve & Steve 320.)

Humans tend to look at the negative when the positive is right in the front of them. This causes stress and makes us stay down.

DRAFT PROPOSAL

I will be adding on to my midterm with Hank Willis Thomas, my project will be in a basketball court and I will use shackles to show how people of color are always shackled in society. I'll start moving with them on, and then I'll take them off and I'll still move in the same way. Whether if the shackles are on or they're off, we are never really free. This project will try to show a way to break barriers through basketball, and I'll try my best to demonstrate that clearly. It will be a collage of videos and pictures, and there will be distinct audios for every situation.

I'm aiming to use this project as motivation, and to show my classmates that these barriers can be broken, but it will just take time. Life is a journey, and we have to try our best to remove the shackles over time. The shackles will try to reappear, but with our power we will be able to brush them off, and soar like Michael Jordan.
