For my midterm I can make a poster displaying Scarred Chest by Hank Willis Thomas and I can ask my peers how they interpret it.
I can also make a pdf displaying his art and connecting Scarred Chest to his other pieces and showing the similarities in his art.
Toward A Curatorial Activism

The art system is controlled by people with power, and they choose which type of art serves value. The system limits diversity and favors certain people.
" The downside of the latter technique, however, is that it can result in assimilation, which comes at the cost of cultural heritage, and can obscure the real socio historical differences in relation to the privileged classes."
Trying to fit in different cultural systems can result in marginalized groups losing their own culture. Trying to relate with privileged classes can also result in people forgetting their background.
What Is Curatorial Activism
"Theirs is not Affirmative Action curating, it’s intelligent curating. "
This is an interesting quote because many people think that curating is about creating diversity, but it is instead thoughtful and informed curating. This still creates diversity, but it is well informed.
"If you don’t believe that the art world is sexist and racist, it’s time for you to come out from under your rock."
This is straight forward, and it's a fact. Minority artists have been silenced for years, and white men have had life the easiest in the art world. If you don't believe this, you're either uninformed or you are just blind to the blatant flaws in the art world.
