Nishae Williams 10/1

This is what i know about art:

Quote 1: "I have seen many rooms that need people just like you."

Response: It feels like an invitation to invite more black and diverse voices into a world that lacks them. Their presence is needed to invoke change and representation.

Quote 2: "Whenever I speak, I think about the saying, 'Don't speak unless you're improving upon silence.'"

Response: To me, this quote feels like a suggestion. Like art activism should be meaningful and not just a placeholder. When you look at it, it should mean something to you, or at the very least make you feel something.

Quote 3: "Art -- can help understand subjectivity, navigate current events, and preserve history"

Response: This emphasizes that art, again, shouldn't be limited to simple decor. It has the purpose to be more and should be treated as such. It frames history and culture.

Art work and why it interests me!

The artworks I chose interested me because they center Black identity as clear as day, WITH confidence and pride. Marshall's use of the deep colors turns his piece into a 'symbol' of strength and visibility. His work reflects what Drew talks about: art as a form of representation. Just existing can be a revolutionary act.
