“Lecture after lecture and week after week, I would diligently research the names that we’d learned hoping, praying that some of them would be the names of Black people.”
This quote stands out to me greatly because this is the experience of being a black student in America. You hope and hope to see more black names in the subject you're studying, but more often than not, the names you do find have been scrubbed from history, just like what is happening today.
"Art and protest are forever bound together"
This quote means a lot to me because Art IS protest (in most cases). Art has always been the voice of the oppressed and will continue to be so until humanity is gone. From Propaganda to Revolutionary ideals, a good piece of art can shift the opinions of millions.
"If I were an African American, I would see white guilt as equally as offensive as outright racism.”
I really like this quote because it's honestly true. It just shows me that you mostly care about yourself and aren't mature enough to put away childish (non insulting) feelings of guilt to the side to do real help for the people you feel bad for. Nothing annoys me more than when people act on their white guilt instead of trying to help
The piece of art I'd like to talk about is the Dinosaurs Eating CEO painting
This is an anti capitalist painting made by John Brosio in 2013. It depicts two raptors (unknown specific species) devouring a CEO in the middle of the street. I really like the painting because it's shocking. There's no beating around the subject or hidden messages, it's two dinosaurs eating a CEO. I like straight forward art work like this because it shows the artist had no fear or had enough of the current situation.
If I were to make a tumblr account, it would be about the crimes CEO's and ultra wealthy individuals attempted to cover up or pay off to keep quiet. It's extremely common for people to just brush off crimes ultra wealthy/popular people do just because they paid off the victims or the case was thrown out or judgement was ruled in favor of the predator. I want to be a beacon of information on the people who attempted to cover these things up so the public always knows who they're voting for/who is funding the campaign/who is running their businesses, etc.
