Performative art activism post- Ethan Pazmino

“If we want to create change, and there is no change happening, what do we do? First, we create awareness. We study the problem, and devise ways to effectively communicate this information as far and wide as possible. When we spread this information, people become aware and become motivated. They gather together and create a movement, and that movement creates change.”

I chose this quote because I like the way it breaks down the process in which a person or group of people can create change. The author put it in a way that may inspire other people to start actively changing some of the issues in their community.

“When we are confronted with information that challenges the beliefs we hold as true, instead of changing our minds we often ‘double down’ on our original belief systems.”

That is interesting because I can see how and why people do this, anI can even see myself doing this. When someone is in a discussion, they never want to admit they are wrong, so they keep insisting even if they know they are wrong.

Performative art: overthinking

Description - I often find myself overthinking about the past and what I could have done differently in certain situations and it's not good for me. I think that most people struggle with this problem and don't know what to do. I want to have big pieces of paper and on the first one, show what your brain looks like when you overthink, when you are not overthinking at all, and maybe on a third one I will write tips on how to get better at moving forward and not overthinking.

The message:

The message will be to let people know that they are not alone and that there are ways to get better at it. No one really likes to talk about something like this, me included, but maybe with this project I will be able to spread the word that there is help because I know how hard it can be to overthink the worst stuff.

The setting:

The setting can range from a classroom to a hallway in the arts building. The supplies I would need are like 3 big pieces of paper, tape, and a couple of big markers so people can see from afar.

ch 6

“Artists and activists who want to collaborate often find they are separated by different languages. All roads to lasting change lead through the intersection where art and activism meet, and persuasion is the language that connects them.”

I like the connection between language and art and how people from all different cultures can come together to appreciate art.

“Appealing to — and believing in — change through ethical, moral, emotional processes is a critical piece of the work. Conversion isn’t the only outcome; sometimes it’s accommodation or nonviolent coercion that drives real change.

This quote explains that there are different ways in which you can use art to change how people think but not just through accommodation or nonviolent coercion
